Our 5-day Learn to Glide courses will take most people more than half way to solo flying standard. Your professional instructor is fully trained to the required British Gliding Association standard. As we would like to see our course members fly with us as much as possible, as an added bonus you will also qualify for 3 months free membership of the gliding club, starting from the first day of your course or when you have paid the full course fee.The majority of launches are carried out using our modern and powerful winch. The club operates ASK21 two seater gliders that are ideal for early training and one of our fleet is always set aside for the sole use of yourself and your fellow course members. Training flights on the winch are usually around 5 to 10 minutes in duration, and those on aerotow will last around 15-20 minutes. If however, thermal conditions are good and there is natural lift in the air, you may expect to fly for 30 minutes or more each flight. Longer flights count as 2 or more launches. On the first day, the instructor will give a short briefing on ground handling, general procedures and setting out of the equipment. Gliding is very much a team activity and those not actually flying support those who are. Good team work will result in more flying for everyone. All course members are expected to stay at the launch point whenever flying is taking place because everyone must take part in crewing for each flight. Your course fee includes all your flying even if you exceed the minimum guaranteed number of launches. At the end of the week you will have nothing extra to pay |
Weekly Course Programme MOTORGLIDER: Early in the week you will have a chance to fly in the T61 motorglider. These flights serve two purposes. Firstly, airborne time is guaranteed so this gives you a chance to get used to basic flight controls. Also you will have time to get to know the local area and learn a few landmarks. |
|
| AEROTOW LAUNCH: Later in the week you will be given a chance to take a flight launched by the tug. As well as giving your instructor more time to smooth out any rough edges in your flying, the aerotow is added to your course to show you what this type of launch is all about. |

| WINCH LAUNCHING: This type of launch is the mainstay of your training and is available all day from Monday to Friday. During the week we guarantee at least 14 winch launches (or the equivalent time in the air). If you do not have a motorglider flight or aerotow you are guaranteed at least 20 flights (or equivalent time). |
