The T61 Motorglider.
Like many gliding clubs, we own and operate a Motorglider.
This aircraft has a variety of uses.
Its full title is A Self Launching Motor Glider (SLMG). As the name suggests it is capable of launching without a winch or a tug and then once airborne, the engine can be switched off and the aircraft becomes a pure glider.
It is used mainly for early training of new members as having an engine means that flights can be extended to allow more practice time. Usually, two or three flights of 30 minutes are taken before graduating on to the gliders.
It can also be used for navigation and field landing exercises and simply for fun!
